The battle between Ichigo and Ginjo comes to a close when the latter receives a mortal wound. Just as Ginjo is about to die, Tsukishima tries to kill Ichigo but is stopped by Riruka. Tsukishima is later rescued by Shishigawara while the surviving Xcution members decide to separate. Ichigo later returns to Soul Society and requests that Head Captain Yamamoto let Ginjo’s body be buried within the human world as the last thing he can do for him. Yamamoto agrees just as Ichigo accepts to continue being a Substitue Soul Reaper. Rukia see Ichigo off, recalling their time together and silently thanks him. Ichigo smiles and tells Rukia “See ya later” before returning to Karakura Town where he is greeted by his friends and family.

However, when Ginjo senses that Tsukishima is close to dying, he reveals to Ichigo that the Substitute Soul Reapers are constantly spyed on by the Soul Society to monitor their actions. However, Ichigo decides he will trust Soul Society for aiding him in protecting the people close to him, and continues fighting Ginjo alone. Both Ichigo and Ginjo release their Bankai and fight just as the Soul Reapers Captains heard Ichigo’s resolve.

Byakuya starts his battle with Tsukishima. When Tsukishima reveals that he can use his Fullbring on inanimate objects as well, he traps Byakuya and hits him and Senbonzakura, thus learning all he needs to know about Byakuya’s weaknesses. Meanwhile, Rukia fights against Riruka and gets her body trapped in a stuffed animal due to Riruka’s new powers. She attempts to fight with Kido, but it accidentally implodes inside herself. Riruka starts to reveal her past and Xcution’s past, which gets her distracted enough for Rukia to touch her zanpakuto. Unable to dodge her, Riruka hits Rukia with her Fullbring and disappears, leaving her to collapse. Back to Byakuya’s fight, Tsukishima is able to overwhelm him and manages to inflict a serious injury. However, Byakuya shoots out his bankai from his hand, and it pierces Tsukishima’s chest. Byakuya thanks him for an exciting battle and Tsukishima falls to the ground.

Uryu comes to assist Ichigo in his battle against Ginjō. Byakuya Kuchiki prepares to start fighting Tsukishima while Riruka ambushes Rukia using stuffed animals. Renji Abarai encounters Jackie and defeats her without the use of his zanpakutō, having increased his powers to be at Aizen’s level. As Yukio then attempts to destroy the dimension where Renji and Jackie are situated, he is confronted by Hitsugaya. Hitsugaya manages to capture Yukio and attempts to force him to free his comrades. Meanwhile, Ikkaku Madarame confronts Shishigawara, managing to find his Fullbring’s weakness and overpowering him.

Then, Ginjō reappears and Tōshirō Hitsugaya reveals that he was the first Substitute Soul Reaper. Meanwhile Orihime and Chad rush to Ichigo and are confused as to why he and the other Soul Reapers are fighting Ginjō. Tsukishima appears behind them and tries to break their minds by adding new memories to their past. Urahara and Isshin knock them out. The other members of Xcution are given new powers of their own. Ichigo attempts to take them down, but Yukio uses his new powers to protect themselves and separate the others. Kenpachi Zaraki quickly takes care of Giriko and cuts him in half, killing him instantly.

Ginjo is able to take Ichigo’s Fullbring and apply its power to his own. Unable to do anything about his situation, Ichigo falls deep into despair and runs to Ginjo desesperated. He is then impaled by a sword held by Rukia which causes him to become a Soul Reaper once again. The sword is revealed to possess the powers from the Soul Society’s Gotei 13 army in order to assist Ichigo in his fight against Ginjo.

Ichigo continues his battle with Tsukishima, but is unable to hurt him without fighting against Orihime and Chad who believe he has gone crazy. Meanwhile, Ginjo contnues his battle with Xcution, but runs into trouble when Moe Shishigawara. Unable to fight back, Ichigo is overwhlemed by Tsukishima and is about to be hit by his Fullbring when Ginjo takes the hit instead. Ichigo believes its all over, but Ginjo is unaffected. They are about to continue the fight when Uryu arrives. Ichigo wonders if he is affected by Tsukishima’s Fullbring, but Uryu claims he is not and says that it was Ginjo who attcked him. Before he can react, Ichigo is struck down by Kugo who starts to laugh maniacally. Ichigo realizes that Ginjo was affected after all, but Kugo says he is half right. He was hit by Tsukishima twice to return to his original self and stabs Ichigo with his sword and says he will take his Fullbring.

While contemplating what to do next concerning Tsukishima’s Fullbring, Ginjo and Ichigo are found out by Yukio and brought to Tsukishima. Once there, they are led up to the room where all of the people that were affected by Tsukishima’s Fullbring are waiting for them. Unable to fight with all of them in the crosshairs, Ichigo runs away to a safer location but is stopped by the brainwashed Xcution. However, Kugo destroys the staircase and takes on the others himself while Ichigo fights Tsukishima. He is able to gain the upperhand with his Fullbring and severely injurs Tsukishima’s arm. However, Orihime and Chad (Who are also affected by Tsukishima) arrive and stop him from finishing Tsukishima off. Surprised by their sudden arrival, Tsukishima comes from behind and hits Ichigo through the wall.

During the 17-month time skip, the Soul Reapers of the Soul Society celebrate the New Year told within 2 stories. The first deals with Izuru Kira organizing a special event given to him by Shuhei Hisagi. At first he is reluctant to participate, but changes his mind after Momo Hinamori’s interest in it. The event he comes up with is friendly kite flying which slowly turns into a fight between women & men and Squad 2 & 11. Kira attempts to stop the chaos fail and he falls into Squad 1′s barracks, angering Head Captain Yamamoto. The second deals with Rukia as she prepares for an upcoming ceremonial dance her sister had been in many years ago, but is unimpressed with her dancing abilities. Renji Abarai decides to help her out, but Rukia is unable to discern what he is trying to do to actually help and when Renji accidentally spills ink on the ceremonial kimono, Rukia angrily tells him to leave. However, after Byakuya gives Rukia her sister’s kimono instead, she realizes that Renji was trying to make sure Rukia had some fun which would allow her to enjoy dancing instead of worrying about it. Rukia apologizes to Renji through a letter and he is able to come to the dance which turns out to be a huge success.

Xcution continues their battle with Tsukishima in order to make sure Ichigo is fully protected by Yukio’s Fullbring. They succeed and Tsukishima is forced to retreat. The group then moves to their second hideout to ponder what Tsukishima’s intentions were, but come to realize they are overthinking it and decide to continue Ichigo’s training inside Yukio’s Fullbring. Meanwhile Orihime heals Uryū and they discuss the new threat, but are unable to figure out if all the incidents so far were from the same culprit. Orihime then runs into Sado who brings her back to Xcution’s hideout to heal Ichigo as he fights Kugo. Kisuke Urahara and Isshin Kurosaki are also working together on something and ask a Soul Reaper to put their reiatsu into a vat of spiritual pressure. Enraged he starts to battle Tsukishima, but the expert Fullbringer overwhelms him. Kugo then gets in the way and battles with Tsukishima instead, the two being more evenly matched. Yet Ichigo can’t stand and watch and attacks again and is able to land a hit, but is stopped by Yukio’s Fullbring “Invaders Must Die” who then proceeds to stop Tsukishima himself.

Gradually losing his temporarily restored powers, Ichigo struggles against a hollow, but is saved by Rukia. The shinigami in charge of Karakura town, Kuramadani Zennosuke interrupts their conversation, yelling at them to stop doing his job. The next day, Rukia is instructed a mission by Ukitake to prevent Ichigo from fighting because of the fast rate of his disappearing spiritual powers. That night, Ishida and Rukia save Ichigo from a hollow and tell him to rest, much to his dismay. The next day, Ichigo takes Rukia and his friends to an ice skating rink, since he saw Rukia staring at the place a lot. Fireworks from a nearby amusement park begin to shoot up in the sky, ending the day on a happy note. While walking home, Ichigo senses a giant hollow and goes to his shinigami form, before being stopped by Rukia. Ichigo once again struggles against the giant hollow as his powers begin to fail him. Rukia saves him, leaving Ichigo to question if he was getting in her way. Rukia replies with a heartwarming speech about their friendship. Ichigo requests for Rukia to freeze the hollows legs, and he fires his “last getsuga tenshou,” destroying the hollow. Ichigo, exhausted, has a brief conversation with Rukia before he is told to rest. Ichigo wakes up in his human body, in his room, with his friends surrounding him. Ichigo takes note of his disappearing powers, and asks to go outside. Outside, Ichigo notices that he can barely sense spirits anymore and even Rukia’s presence is disappearing. The two say goodbye and have a brief conversation before Rukia begins to disappear from Ichigo’s sight. After Rukia fully disappears, Ichigo thanks her.

Ichigo successfully unleashes bankai and fights against Yushima, while the captains and vice-captains fight the reigai. With the assistance of his friends, Ichigo is able to fire a hollowfied getsuga tenshou, which Yushima is unable to absorb because of his inability to absorb hollow reiatsu. However, his friends get defeated once again by Yushima. Kon realizes that to break the Nozomi’s and Inaba’s fusion, Ichigo will have to attack his soul sleep, which contains a shinigami’s powers. As Yushima strikes at Ichigo, he catches his zanpakuto and fires a huge hollowified getuga tenshou, which causes great damage to Yushima and the area. Nozomi’s conciousness appears again, asking Ichigo to kill her. Before he can do this, Yushima takes complete control and unleashes Renzan Hajokuri, which creates a giant structure that absorbs the reishi from Soul Society. Being surrounded by his structure and Ichigo out of the way, Nozomi regains control and creates a reishi sword to slice Yushima’s soul sleep. The reigai react shockingly to Yushima’s attack and reveal that their motive was to protect Soul Society in their own way. The reigai proceed to attack the Yushima’s effect at the cost of their own lives, causing a huge explosion. Ichigo deactivates his bankai and has one last clash with an enraged Yushima before breaking the fusion. Inaba and Nozomi reappear again, and Inaba begins to question his thoughts to Nozomi before fading away. Nozomi reuinites with Kon and the rest of her friends, before she starts fades away herself. Nozomi has a heartwarming goodbye with Kon and everyone else and fades away.

Yushima’s Zanpakuto stabs Hollow Ichigo, and within his own consciousness he can see Nozomi inside Yushima’s as well. Nozomi calls out to Ichigo, but before he can do anything to help her, Yushima regains his will and attacks him, causing his Hollow-self to break apart. Now powerless once again, Ichigo is left to watch as his friends attempt to overpower Yushima. But no matter what they try, he finds a way to break through it. Yushima has reigai-Nemu bring him something that will help the fusion become permanent, and when she arrives, she unexpectedly kicks him backward. It is revealed that Kon was helped by Urahara and Mayuri by placing his Soul Candy into that of the reigai. Kon gives Ichigo a complete gikongan which he takes, and it restores his Shinigami powers. He prepares to unleash his bankai against Yushima. Meanwhile, Byakuya has deduced that the reigai do not sacrifice themselves to attack the originals when they are all together, as it goes against what they and Yushima believe in. The originals join forces against the reigai to protect the Soul Society.

But the mindless Hollow continues to pursue him, leading them both to clash on Sokyoku Hill, while the Captains and their reigai counterparts are finally joined by their lieutenants, who help them in the battle. Uryu, Renji, Rukia, Chad and Orihime arrive on Sokyoku Hill and try to stop Yushima, but the combined powers of Nozomi and Kageroza prove to be too much for them. Yushima reveals the true nature of his zanpakuto and defeats everyone, but before he can finish them off, Hollow Ichigo jumps in front of Rukia to take an attack that was meant for her.

Urahara deduces where Kageroza’s other lab might be, and he and Kon head to that location, only to be halted by a reigai of Kisuke. As Urahara battles his reigai counterpart, Kon dashes down into the lab, where he promptly tries to awaken Nozomi inside her capsule. She does awaken and at first insists that Kon escape, but after seeing his persistence, and his devotion of trying to save her, whom he considers a friend, she tries to help Kon restore Ichigo’s Spritual Pressue. Before Ichigo’s soul capsule can be created however, reigai Nemu appears and stops the transfer. Immediately afterward, the fusion process is complete. Hollow Ichigo defeats the members of Squad 8 and is about to destroy the reigai of Ise when the fused Yushima appears before him.

Meanwhile, Ichigo’s spirit energy and Hollow powers continue to grow unstable, forcing him to rest for the time being while Urahara and Kon continue there investigation on Inaba. Urahara and Kon later find out about Yushima Okouyo, the shinigami who created Inaba and Nozomi. When visiting Yushima’s cell in the Maggot’s Nest, they get attacked by the reigais of Soi Fon and Omaeda, but are later defeated by Urahara. The two visit Yushima’s cell, only to find him unresponsive, leading Urahara to conclude that Yushima will never gain consciousness. Meanwhile, Ichigo’s hollow side finally takes over and escapes the building he was in.

Inside the Precipice World, Rukia and the others act as decoys to draw away the Reigai’s attention while Ichigo, Urahara, and Kon break into the Seireitei. As they search for Kageroza’s laboratory, Urahara makes an attempt to restore Ichigo’s lost Shinigami powers by creating a mod soul candy, but is discovered by the Reigai of Nemu and Nanao. At last minute before an explosion, Ichigo breaks the glass containing the candy and consumes it. However, as stated by Urahara, the candy was incomplete, making the balance between Ichigo’s shinigami and hollow powers unbalanced. While escaping, the three are ambushed by the reigai captains, but are saved when Yoruichi and the originals appear, ready to fight.

Following his defeat by Kageroza, Ichigo has lost his Shinigami powers. Still determined to save Nozomi, Ichigo and his friends gather at Urahara’s shop to come up with a rescue plan. Urahara comes up with a risky plan that involves Ichigo being swallowed by the Kōtotsu to retrieve a sample of his shinigami powers, since he was swallowed before. The plan works and Ichigo gets out of the Kōtotsu. When he meets up with everyone, he states that he saw another him when he was inside the Kōtotsu, leading Urahara to conclude that Ichigo saved himself when he was first swallowed,since there is no time in the Kōtotsu.

Nozomi’s Zanpakuto breaks in the midst of trying to protect Genryusai from Kageroza’s attack. As Ichigo and Kon try to save Nozomi from being taken away, Kageroza reveals to everyone that he and Nozomi were created by the same reishi of another shinigami. Inaba defeats everyone while Nozomi and Kon run away. Nozomi sadly binds Kon to a rock with kido and runs away without him. Ichigo is seen still conscious and struggling to catch up with Nozomi. Nozomi is found by Inaba, who falls due to a loose rock on a slope. Ichigo finally catches up and defeats Inaba with a Getsuga Tenshou, only to discover that it was a clone of Inaba created by his zanpakuto’ special ability. Inaba knocks Ichigo out in one swipe and knocks Nozomi out and proceeds to leave the world of the living with her. Kon, still binded to a rock tries to follow them but is too late. He is seen crying Nozomi’s name while Ichigo’s shihakusho turns white.

The Head Captain asks the remaining soul reapers if Nozomi is the one he heard about in the report. Rukia replies that she is, and that her name is Nozomi Kujo. Yamamoto responds by stating that her name is unimportant, as she is a Mod Soul. This upsets Nozomi, and angers Kon. He also states that they don’t need help from a Mod Soul. Suddenly, Yamamoto senses a strong spiritual pressure emanating from the sky. From a crack within the sky, Fake Kyoraku, and Fake Ukitake appear. Ichigo tells Rukia, and Renji to stay back, as well as bring the other injured soul reapers (Uryu, Sado, Yumichika, Iba, Kira, Hisagi, and Matsumoto) to Orihime to be healed. Fake Kyoraku, and Fake Ukitake release their shikai, and Yamamoto does the same. Yamamoto tells Ichigo to stay back as well, stating they will only get in his way. Nozomi refuses, and attacks Fake Kyoraku and Fake Ukitake, but fails to land a strike. Ichigo spars with Fake Ukitake, and Nozomi with Fake Kyoraku. Meanwhile, Yamamoto was distracted and Fake Unohana activates several Bakudo seals, immobilizing him. Ichigo, noticing Nozomi’s defeat at Fake Kyoraku’s hands performs Bankai. Ichigo fires a Getsuga Tensho at the attackers, but Fake Ukitake uses his shikai to absorb, and redirect it at him, who barely manages to avoid it. Yamamoto destroys the seals with his reaitsu and the real Unohana uses a Bakudo on the Fake Unohana. The three fake captains all attack Yamamoto, but Kagerosa appears commanding them to stop. Kagerosa battles Yamamoto but the latter seems to have the upper hand. Nozomi offers to be a decoy for Ichigo and Yamamoto to prevent Kagerosa from copying their techniques. Nozomi attaks Kagerosa, but the latter avoids crossing swords with the former, as he is well aware of her abilities. However, Nozomi reveals that her sword has already absorbed energy from Yamamoto’s zanpakutou. he avoids the attack from Nozomi, but Yamamoto attacks him with his flames. Kagerosa manages to nagate the flames with his zanpakuto’s abilities, but it was only a diversion for Ichigo’s Getsuga Tensho, which is used on Kagerosa. Ichigo collapses, and Nozomi tries to catch him, but Kagerosa is alive, and reveals that before the impact of Yamamoto’s Ryujinjakka, he copied Nozomi’s abilities and use her absorbing ability to absorb both the attack of Yamamoto’s Ryujinjakka, and Ichigo’s Getsuga Tensho. With Ichigo gone, Kagerosa uses the combined attack to finish off Yamamoto. However, Nozomi appears before the blast in an attempt to absorb the attack.

Hisagi and Kira take on fake Hitsugaya while Matsumoto and Iba fight fake Komamura. Renji and Rukia take over Omaeda’s battle with fake Byakuya when he seemingly loses to him. While Yumichika is tending to Ikkaku and talking to Ichigo and Nozomi, fake Zaraki appears. Excited about Nozomi’s power, he wants to fight her, but Yumichika tells her and Ichigo to stand back and tend to Ikkaku’s wounds so that he can avenge his fallen comrade. Not satisfied with that, Nozomi goes around to the different battles to help, but all of the captains tell her to get out of the way and go to safety. Yumichika, Hisagi, and Kira are all taken down, and Renji and Rukia look like they are at their limit. Fake Zaraki challenges Ichigo and Nozomi, and fake Hitsugaya is eager to join in. However, Nozomi deals a considerable amount of damage to him in one shot. Fake Byakuya, realizing the power of her zanpakuto, tries to keep her from using it by binding her with his kido and is about to destroy her when Ishida saves her. Ishida, once seeing Nozomi absorb his Ginreikojaku, deduces that her zanpakuto can absorb anything with spiritual pressure. Having no other choice but to rely on her, the remaining soul reapers plus Chad and Ishida all direct their spiritual pressure at Nozomi, which she redirects at the Invading Army captains. Fake Byakuya survives the attack and is about to unleash his Bankai when the Head Captain suddenly appears and defeats him.

Ichigo, Chad, Ishida and Rukia decide to help Nozomi awaken her zanpakuto’s dormant powers through the same rigorous training that Ichigo underwent to awaken his. Meanwhile, Kageroza orders the fakes of Byakuya, Hitsugaya, Zaraki, and Komamura to infiltrate the Living World. While traveling through the Precipice World, they fall into a trap set by Urahara and are separated when they finally do reach the Living World. To buy Nozomi more time to awaken her zanpakuto, Ikkaku and other soul reapers battle with the captains from the Invading Army. Yumichika tells Ichigo and the others that they won’t awaken Nozomi’s zanpakuto if both sides keep holding back. After Ichigo throws a Getsugatensho at Nozomi, she finally remembers her zanpakuto’s name, Arazomeshigure, which seemingly swallows up all of Ichigo’s zanpakuto’s spiritual pressure.Ikkaku, who was fighting fake Zaraki, looks like he is about to be delivered the finishing blow when Nozomi arrives and seemingly obliterates fake Zaraki with her Arazomeshigure.

Renji reports to the head captain and informs him that the captains involved in the brawl with Inaba have not been heard from. The head captain states that only the soul reapers in the Living World and Ichigo’s group are prepared for battle. He then speculates several hollows may have gathered due to the spiritual disturbance. When Ichigo and Rukia leave Nozomi’s company to deal with a hollow, she leaves the house and goes for a walk. Nozomi herself is then attacked by a hollow, and Kon arrives to defend her. After the hollow easily deals with them both, Nozomi’s frustration releases a bout of spiritual pressure, and she regains her zanpakuto and soul reaper abilities, defeating the hollow.

Ichigo awakens at Urahara’s shop, mystified as to how he was rescued. Urahara tells him that there are several ways to escape the restrictive current but none to escape the cleaner so it is unknown how Ichigo escaped. Elsewhere, Mayuri uses his zanpakuto to drug Inaba. Inaba then summons fake Isane and attacks her. At Urahara shop, Rukia then explains Project Spearhead to the rest of the group in which mod souls were used. Inaba then takes the soul candy from the Reigai and swallows it, resulting with Inaba being rejected from his body and the Reigai taking the effects of the drug. Inaba then ressurects most of the defeated Reigai, unleashing their true strength and revealing his backstory as the one who created mod souls. The episode ends with Nozomi admitting she was the first mod soul.

Ichigo enters the precipice world and heads towards soul society, and on other side Byakuya kills fake Hitsugaya and move forward, where he encounters fake Byakuya. While Kempachi enters a bamboo forest, he is attacked by Soi fon and her cops. Kempachi kills all cops in one hit. In the real world Urahara gets info that all captains reached the destination and Ichigo is getting there safely. Ichigo gets into soul society where he encounters Kageroza. Else where Hitsugaya finds Hinamori,in his way and talks to her, but She try to strike him as she is reigai,(but he blocks it)and she says”I can’t kill you, but can you kill me.. again?”. He gets shocked, then she stabs him, he try to dodge but he can’t, one more reigai of Hinamori appears and both tries to kill him, but Yoruichi appears and defeats them in single shot. Soi fon attacks Kempachi,but Kommomoru appears, he blocks the attack and tells Kempachi to head forward. Other side, Kageroza says Ichigo that he can’t create reigai of him ( as he is not pure human, soul reaper or hollow), so he is like a thorn in his plans and sends him back to precipice world , where he becomes the prey of the cleaner.

Fake Unohana arrives and heals their wounds, revealing their strategy to exhaust the head captain. Elsewhere in Seireitei, Byakuya is stopped by the Fake Hitsugaya, and the two unleash their bankais in a brief battle. Byakuya asks the imposter why someone would fight for Inaba, and Fake Histugaya claims that he want to protect some one, whom the original also want to protect but the original one does not have the power to do it,which he has. Byakuya criticizes his motives and eventually manages to defeat him, though narrowly escaping Hitsugaya’s Hyoten Hyakasso. Back in the living world, Ichigo asks Urahara to send him to Soul Society. He is advised not to go due to his declining spirit energy. However, Nozomi steps up and reveals a type of healing kido that restores some of Ichigo’s lost spiritual power. He then proceeds with heading to Soul Society, where Inaba meets with Nozomi’s unconscious soul claiming she will return.

Sado and Orihime find Rukia, Nemu, and Matsumoto washed up on the shore of the river. As Orihime goes to heal them, Sado is attacked by false Renji. In Soul Society, the fake Kyoraku and Ukitake confront the head captain, who claims he has known all along about their intent to kill him. Unohana meets with Isane and explains to her that she has gone through secret Soul Society archives, and that she has determined Inaba as the perpetrator. Inaba then reveals himself, and demonstrates the power of his zanpakuto as Isane attacks him. Unohana infers that he has used his research to form a zanpakuto that can move through both space and time. Inaba confirms this and then retreats. As Sado is confronting false Renji, the real Renji appears and attacks his imposter. The false Renji is then defeated later in the episode. Meanwhile, Nozomi explains to Kon that the living world has several natural senkaimons, some leading to empty voids. Her plan is to enter one and vanish, rendering Inaba unable to capture her. Several of the Reigai appear to apprehend her, but they are confronted by Ichigo. He unleashes a powerful Getsuga Tensho, destroying the Reigai that appeared (Rukia, Matsumoto, Hisagi, Omaeda, Yumichika, and Ikkaku).

Kon continues following Nozomi, who claims to have some sort of uncertain destination that she will not reveal. Later, Ichigo, Orihime, and Sado are seen searching for Nozomi, while Uryū is seen tending to the wounds of four soul reapers previously attacked. Izuru Kira’s Reigai attacks Matsumoto, claiming to be stronger than before. After releasing his zanpakuto, he attacks Matsumoto who manages to block his attacks. As she attempts to release her zanpakuto, it drops to the ground. Fake Kira explains that Inaba improved his abilities, and now his sword increases the weight ten-fold with every hit. Kira manages to subdue her and nearly behead her, however she blocks his zanpakuto with a steel pole, which forces his sword to the ground, trapping it due to its weight. Matsumoto then attacks with Haineko, and Fake Kira disintegrates. Back in Soul Society, Ukitake pleas to Central 46, asking them to free Kyoraku. They deny his request, and he meets with Unohana, who warns him to be careful. Later, False Rukia attacks the real Rukia. Nemu Kurotsuchi’s Reigai arrives and joins the brawl, revealing that the two imposters form a formidable tag team. Then, the real Nemu arrives, killing her Reigai. False Nemu disintegrates like Kira, leaving behind a red stone. Nemu assumes that this is the true form of the Reigai. Rukia then defeats her respective Reigai, and Matsumoto joins Rukia and Nemu. When they agree to search for Nozomi, Rukia reveals she is actually the false Rukia, and then she tosses Nemu and Matsumoto into the river with the real Rukia. Elsewhere, Nozomi tells Kon she must find a place with a row of shrine gates, and Kon agrees to take her to the first place he remembers. Also, Ukitake frees Kyoraku from imprisonment, though Kyoraku slashes Ukitake and reveals he is also a Reigai. Fake Kyoraku meets with Fake Ukitake, and the two flee.

The episode begins with Ukitake and Kyoraku suspecting some sort of foul play within Soul Society, questioning Ichigo’s arrest. They reflect on a previous captain meeting, where Kurotsuchi claims that Ichigo tampered with work in the Precipice World, which is supported by Kenpachi Zaraki. Unbeknowest to Ukitake and Kyoraku, both Mayuri and Kenpachi are imposters. Ichigo is then placed under suspicion by the head captain. In Karakura Town, Ichigo retires to his room to find Kon tied up in his closet. He informs Ichigo that Nozomi has escaped again. Ichigo, his friends, and the Soul Reapers trapped in the living world proceed with searching for her. In Soul Society, Inaba addresses what seems to be the unconscious soul of Nozomi, dressed in attire similar to Rukia’s during her arrest. This indicates Nozomi left her soul and escaped to the living world. Kon manages to find Nozomi, though she is reluctant to return. Meanwhile, the imposters arrive in Karakura Town. Ikkaku, Yumichika, Omaeda, Hisagi are confronted by their respective Reigai. Omaeda’s Reigai also happens to look more appealing than the real one, having claimed he did not want Omaeda’s actual looks. The Soul Reapers engage their imposters in an intense, fast-paced combat, with Hisagi and Omaeda tricking their imposters and defeating them. However, Ikkaku and Yumichika are nearly killed, though their Reigai are fended off after Uryū arrives to join the fray. The false Ikkaku and false Yumichika retreat. At the episode’s conclusion, Kira’s Reigai approaches Matsumoto, Rukia encounters her own Reigai, and Soi Fon arrests Kyoraku, who, like Ichigo, has been framed by Inaba.

Orihime organizes a Barbecue to cheer up Nozomi and get her to open up to the others, however she runs away. Kon, Chad, Uryū, and Orihime try to find her. Kon eventually finds her, but leaves her in the care of Matsumoto, but fails to realize that Matsumoto is the impostor trying to capture Nozomi. After he realizes that Nozomi was captured by Matsumoto, he attempts to save her, however he cannot defeat Matsumoto, and after he himself is defeated, Ichigo, Renji, Rukia, and Matsumoto all arrive to save Nozomi, and the impostor Matsumoto escapes. The episode ends with everyone having a barbecue, and Nozomi starts to eat after Kon offers her some barbecue.

Uryū Ishida shows up and confronts the mysterious scientist while Kon is unable to respond. Nozomi is left unconscious, captured by Kira and Nanao. Ishida is defeated by the scientist and his zanpakuto, Raiku. Ichigo, Rukia, and Yoruichi are trying to form a plan to escape Soul Society since they assume the Reigai blocked the Senkaimon. Yoruichi sacrifices herself and fights the captains and lieutenants to let Rukia and Ichigo escape. Orihime and Chad show up to save Ishida and Chad is also defeated when he is trying to give Orihime time to heal Ishida. Ichigo and Rukia arrive and Ichigo proceeds with fighting the scientist. He reveals his name is Kageroza Inaba, and easily deals with Ichigo in his weakening state. Just as he is about to kill Ichigo and Rukia, Renji appears and attacks Inaba with his zanpakuto. The other captains and lieutenants involved in the incident arrive to face Inaba, and Hitsugaya retrieves Nozomi after dealing a blow to fake Kira. The scientist then admits that he is behind the Reigai incident, and then claims once he has Nozomi, he will be able to conquer Soul Society and the World of the Living. Inaba escapes to Soul Society and meets with the Reigai. He deems them the Invading Army, and tasks them with retrieving Nozomi and eliminating the originals.

While Kon tries to keep the green-haired girl, whose name is Nozomi Kujo, a secret from Ichigo’s family, Ichigo himself is placed under confinement in Seireitei. Rukia sneaks into jail and frees him. Jūshirō and Shunsui discuss Ichigo’s arrest, as his substitute badge was found by Byakuya Kuchiki inside the Precipice World, leading the rest to believe Ichigo is responsible for the disappearances. However Jūshirō and Shunsui believe there’s more to it. Rukia explains to Ichigo there is a time gap between the living world and Soul Society. Before she can explain more, Renji and Ikkaku confront them. Although Ichigo and Rukia try to convince them they are innocent, the two Soul Reapers attack them. While fighting them, Ichigo and Rukia realize that Renji and Ikkaku are somehow not themselves and exhibit ruthless behaviors. Yoriuchi arrives and seals Renji and Ikkaku’s movements before escaping with Ichigo and Rukia. In her hideout, Yoriuchi explains to them that the Soul Reapers are being replaced secretly by Reigai, which houses the spiritual essence of Soul Reapers functioning like a gigai. The reigai contains near-perfect copies of memories, personalities and behaviors of the Soul Reapers. As reigai is used to test out the soul candies, it seems that someone in the 12th Division and the Department of Technology and Research is involved. Yoriuchi has no idea how many impostors are there hiding among the Gotei 13. Ichigo and Rukia sneak into the lab and discover Nozomi is a fugitive from Soul Society. The mysterious scientist along with the fake Kira and Nanao arrive in the living world to apprehend Nozomi, who evades capture. Kon follows her and both are eventually cornered by the scientist’s group. However, Uryū Ishida arrives to help Kon and Nozomi.

After cleansing and restoring the barriers where Karakura Town was temporarily swapped with Soul Society, Matsumoto and Nanao enter the Precipice World to return home, but are confronted by something along the way. Hitsugaya and Shunsui lose contact with their lieutenants, who have not returned. Meanwhile, Ichigo and Rukia go off to handle hollows, and Kon goes off to investigate a spiritual disturbance and finds a green-haired girl covered in rags. Hitsugaya and Shunsui report to Yamamoto regarding their lieutenants’ disappearances, but Matsumoto and Nanao return at the same time. Both of them do not recall being away that long and just came back directly. The Soul Reapers realize time in the Precipice World is out of sync with Soul Society, with Yamamoto ordering Mayuri Kurotsuchi to conduct a survey of the area with Kenpachi’s team as security escort. Ichigo returns home and is furious with Kon, who has brought back the green-haired girl. While the survey in ongoing, Mayuri and Kenpachi’s team are confronted by an intense light emerging from the walls of the Precipice World. Rukia is ordered to return to Soul Society along with Ichigo. Ichigo goes with Rukia through the Precipice World but are chased by the Kototsu. To save themselves, Ichigo uses his bankai and carries Rukia all the way to Soul Society but due to the gradual loss of his powers, he falls to the ground. Ichigo encounters Hitsugaya and then Byakuya, the placing Ichigo under confinement. Somewhere in Soul Society, a man walks through a lab filled with piles of gigai and addresses what seems to be Kira Izuru and Nanao Ise.

Grandma Haru, who is being held in the hollow’s hand restrains him with her riatsu giving Toshirō enough time to give the finishing blow. When the fight ends, Yosuke is shown again in his normal form laying on the grass with Toshirō, Karin and Grandma Haru by his side. It begins to snow in Karakura which allows Yosuke to leave happy. The episode is concluded with Toshirō seeing Karin off and Yuzu announcing a new arc starting next with the next episode.

Yachiru encounters an old friend she calls Mappy, and a new face, Mayu. Mappy, or Masayoshi starts to tell the two about how a hollow killed his wife. Mayu, having had her parents killed by a hollow starts to feel a bit close to Masayoshi. Later, after a talk with Kenpachi, Yachiru warns her not to get too close to Mappy. However, this was immediately after asking to travel with him. Later on, Masayoshi protects Mayu, and asks her to accompany him as she had previously asked. Then, Yachiru jumps between the two, and reveals that Kenpachi told her how a hollow posessed Masayoshi, as proven when his love for sweets and the memory of his wife’s name were now gone. Masayoshi at first doesn’t believe it, but Yachiru insists. He begins to transform into the hollow in his panicked state. Just then, a hollow shows up behind Mayu, and Masayoshi jumps in and kills it, however fatally wounding himself in the process. Masayoshi dies happily in Mayu’s arms after having some konpeito candy from Yachiru, remarking how good it is.

The episode begins with Kon yelling out the window about his imprisonment in Ichigo’s room, just then a pretty a lady walks by and Kon tries to jump out to her as she asks for directions which Ichigo gives her. Ichigo’s badge rings as a hollow appears and Ichigo rushes out in his Soul Reaper form. Kon is later seen taking a stroll on a bridge in Ichigo’s body and spots the girl from before who was asking for directions as she is about to jump off the bridge. Kon runs to save her, but instead of saving the girl, he falls off the bridge himself. As the girl and Kon talk it is revealed that the girl can see Hollows and Soul Reapers and because of this her boyfriend Ken breaks up with her and also that the girl’s name is Haruko. Ichigo finds Rukia and Rukia tells him that there has been a Hollow that has been sucking out the souls of humans. As Haruko leaves Kon and is by her self, she is attacked by that Hollow and Kon arrives just in time to save her. After the incident Haruko’s boyfriend Ken arrives to apologize for what he did and it turns out that it wasn’t Ken at all, but the hollow itself and is able to take over Haruko as well. Kon fights Haruko and manages to get the hollow out of her, but just then Kon’s pill pops out of Ichigo’s body and he is no longer in control of it. Before Kon in his pill is eaten, he is saved by Ichigo who kills the hollow. Haruko mistakens Ichigo as Kon and decides to take Ichigo as her boyfriend and leave Ken, but just then Rukia arrives and using her memory erasing spray, she erases the memory of Hakuro and Ken. The episode ends with Haruko and Ken holding hands and resuming their relationship knowing nothing of what happened.

The episode starts off with Ichigo sparring with Renji and after that a man from squad 11 named Seizo gives the two tea, but everyone seems to disrespect him and Ichigo wonders why. It is later revealed that Seizo was once a strong warrior, but because he lost almost all of his spiritual energy to a hollow he became weak and no one after that respected him. After regaining his confidence in his skills he defeats a group of hollows alongside Ikkaku. The episode ends with Seizo leaving the Thirteen Court Guard Squads with all of Squad 11 including Ikkaku bowing down to him in respect.

This episode starts off with many shinigami, including Ayasegawa Yumichika and Madarame Ikkaku, greating ‘captain’ Omaeda, however it is soon revealed that it was just Omaeda’s dream. Omaeda is about to go back to sleep when he realises that his little afternoon nap had turned into a 3 hour sleep. Omaeda realises that he is already late and begins to run back to Sereitei so he does not get punished by his captain, SoiFon. However he falls off a cliff as he does so and apparently saves the life of a Rukongai boy by falling on top of a hollow who was about to attack the boy, who takes him back to his village where Omaeda claims he is the captain of the 2nd Division. The villagers serve Omaeda platefuls of their best food to express their gratitude to the ‘captain’ for saving the boy, Ryuzaburo. That night Omaeda who is sleeping in the Rukongai village wakes up and rushes back to 2nd Division’s barracks after realising that he will be severly punished by his captain. The next day Omaeda is shown apologizing and trying desperately to get mercy from his captain, however SoiFon states that Omaeda’s prescence was not missed and sends him to clean the Seretei grounds by himself. Meanwhile Ryuzaburo and 2 of his friends are trying to get into Seretei to see their ‘captain’. Yoruichi and Ichigo happen to be passing by and Yoruichi tells Jidanbo to let the boys in and that she will take responsibility for it. The boys tell Yoruichi and Ichigo that the ‘captain’ never said his name but that he was the captain of 2nd Division. When they arrive at 2nd Squad’s barracks Omaeda begs Yoruichi and Ichigo to go along with the story to which Yoruichi agrees to while Ichigo on the other hand was reluctant. Yoruichi gives many suggestions to the boys as to what they should have Omaeda show them. As Omaeda is walking down the street with the 3 boys, they run into Yumichika and Ikkaku, who also play along with the story in order to get cash from Omaeda. Yumichika then tells Matsumoto about this, who then notifies a big group of female shinigamis to follow. In the end even SoiFon plays along with the story by giving Omaeda a masage and also doing his chores for him after being persuaded by Yoruichi. However at the end of the day the 3 boys over hear Ikkaku and Yumichika discussing the fact that Omaeda would never become a captain. Ryuzaburo becomes angry at Omaeda and runs home only to be stopped by the hollow from the day before but Omaeda saves him and bids him farewell. The episode ends with the 3 boys returning to their village and SoiFon beating Omaeda up for insulting her.

In the aftermath of the Winter War, all of the Soul Reapers begin to recuperate, and in some cases, train, as does Hitsugaya with his bankai. Hiyori is healed by Unohana, but ultimately it is up to her own will if she is to survive. Unohana is thanked by all of the Vizard for her gratitude. Ichigo questions what Aizen’s true motives might have been the whole time, before he is reunited with his friends. However, he suddenly collapses and blacks out. In Central 46, Aizen is sentenced to 20,000 years in the lowest underground level of the prison: Muken. He states he finds it somewhat comical that beings of their caliber are declaring judgment on him. Yammy is shown defeated in Hueco Mundo, with his little dog next to him. Head Captain Yamamoto berates Kenpachi, Byakuya, and Shunsui for losing their Captain’s coats. In Rukia’s house, Ichigo wakes up and it is revealed that he went through the first couple of stages in losing his powers: his hair is back to its original length, as is his height. Now it is only a matter of time, be it a day, two or even a year, before he permanently loses his Soul Reaper powers. This doesn’t bother Ichigo too much, as he is mainly glad to see all of his friends alive and well. They then prepare to head back to the World of the Living. This episode marks the end of the Arrancar saga.

Ichigo wounds Aizen with his blade, and his opponent retreats to a cliff. Ichigo questions why Aizen is backing away from him, quoting the words that were said to him when he did the same thing back in the World of the Living. Aizen becomes outraged that a mere human could possibly do all of this to him, and loses control. The Hogyoku forces yet another transformation upon him, and he becomes a grotesque, Hollow-like creature. He manages to ensnare Ichigo and is preparing to kill him, but Ichigo shows off his new powers once again by easily breaking free. He then decides to put an end to the games and unleash the Final Getsuga Tensho. Through a flashback it is revealed that while in his inner world, Ichigo could not defeat Tensa Zangetsu, until he allowed his zanpakuto to pierce him, thereby accepting him, and the consequences of the technique, which would strip Ichigo of his Soul Reaper powers. Unleashing the Final Getsuga allows Ichigo to actually become Getsuga itself, and he unleashes a torrent of darkness that enshrouds the land and defeats Aizen. However, Aizen is still alive, thanks to the Hogyoku, and prepares to finish off Ichigo, whose Shinigami powers are finally disappearing. Aizen is stopped by a kido that suddenly activates and it is revealed by Kisuke Urahara, who steps onto the scene, that he planted it inside of the kido he shot just before Aizen transformed the first time. Now that his power has weakened the seal has begun to work and the Hogyoku no longer sees him as its master. Aizen screams in frustration at Kisuke, berating him on how the world should be, and questions how he can possibly serve the Soul King as he does. Before he can say anything more, he is completely sealed.

It is revealed that Gin became a Shinigami in order to find and destroy the foes who tormented Rangiku. He recalls apologizing to her back on Sokyoku Hill and is satisfied with that. Before Aizen can kill anybody else, Ichigo surprisingly shows up on the scene with his unconscious father over his shoulder. Tatsuki can sense an overwhelming power from Aizen, but mysteriously, she can sense nothing at all from her friend. Gin sees the changed look in Ichigo’s eyes and passes on, content with what he had done. Ichigo wishes to change the location of their fight and Aizen, believing he is superior to Ichigo in every way, is vastly shocked when his opponent effortlessly grabs him and hurls him many miles away from the town. Aizen surmises that Ichigo has not lost his Spiritual Pressure; he has “discarded” it, but he still believes that he can easily defeat him. The two finally clash and the release of power is enormous, even splitting mountains into pieces. Aizen becomes increasingly more arrogant, and is shocked once again when Ichigo manages to stop his blade. Enraged, Aizen unleashes a full incantation of the Black Coffin spell, which engulfs Ichigo, but again he shocks Aizen by easily shattering it, and after revealing that it was his sword alone that shattered the mountains, he moves in to strike.

Aizen continues to chase Ichigo’s friends. They all make various attempts to stop him but they all fail. Keigo finds a sword belonging to the resident Shinigami of Karakura, and attempts to attack Aizen with it, but is stopped by its owner, who uses his shikai to help them escape. Gin returns to Aizen and tells him that he eliminated Rangiku, to which Aizen replies that her reiatsu has indeed disappeared. Aizen claims he will begin creating the Ouken after he kills Ichigo’s friends and strings their corpses outside of town for all to see. Gin then pulls a surprising move by grabbing Aizen’s sword and then impaling him through the chest. He reveals his bankai’s true ability, that it turns to dust when it contracts and retracts, and is also capable of leaving a lethal poison in one’s body, that dissolves it at a cellular rate. Aizen begins to perish as he curses Gin, who escapes with the Hogyoku in hand. However, the Hogyoku, as it turns out, still belongs to Aizen whether it is inside him or not, and as a result, keeps him alive by evolving him to an even greater form. Gin has a momentary flashback of when he first seen Aizen and sees Rangiku unconscious on the ground. He swears to kill the “boss”. In the present, the newly-evolved Aizen teleports to Gin’s location and brutally slashes him across the middle.

In the Precipice World, Isshin describes to Ichigo that without the presence of the Cleaner, time is reduced to the point that if one were to stay in that world for 2000 hours (3 months), only one hour will have passed in the outside world, making it ideal for training purposes. Isshin devises a method for Ichigo to learn the Final Getsuga Tensho in 2000 hours in that world. To do that, Ichigo must directly contact his zanpakuto, something he has never tried to do before. Once entering his inner world, he meets the spirit of his bankai, Tensa Zangetsu, who refuses to cooperate with him, and pulls out the “source of his despair” which turns out to be Hollow Ichigo. Meanwhile, in the real Karakura, Keigo and Arisawa both wake up and wander over the town, pondering what has happened to them, though suspecting Ichigo to be behind it. Aizen and Gin confront both of them, paralyzing them with their reiatsu. Just as Aizen is about to deal a finishing blow to Arisawa, Don Kanonji steps in.

In the Precipice World Aizen destroys The Cleaner, after Gin tries to tell him it would be impossible. Ichigo and Isshin go into the Precipice World after them. In Soul Society, Mayuri Kurotsuchi is attacked in his laboratory by a pair of mysterious siblings wielding a scythe that erases his memories. In a frightened panic, Kurotsuchi damages a machine, which causes a massive reiatsu explosion that covers much of Soul Society in a milky layer of reiatsu in the form of a giant rampaging river of serpents, killing and freezing many Soul Reapers, including Kenpachi Zaraki. Rukia Kuchiki is confronted and attacked by the siblings, erasing her memories and everybody that has memories of her, and is carried away to a rundown area of Rukongai by the siblings. Seemingly everyone in Soul Society has their memories of Rukia erased.
In the real world, Ichigo Kurosaki briefly forgets Rukia but in a dream recalls her. Troubled, he and Kon go to Kisuke Urahara for information. He tells Urahara of the situation, but he does not remember Rukia despite having her listed as a customer at his shop. Ichigo and Kon go to Soul Society, where they are attacked by people who they knew, including Shuhei Hisagi, Renji Abarai and Sajin Komamura, after Ichigo is forced to use his Hollow powers, but no one remembers Ichigo. While attempting to flee, he is struck by Komamura’s Bankai. Ichigo is branded an intruder by the captains of the Gotei 13. Rukia finds herself in Rukongai with no memory of being a Soul Reaper. The nameless siblings, a sister and a brother, remind Rukia that they used to be close friends living in Rukongai and Rukia was to give them names, although she has forgotten them. Ichigo is healed of his injuries by Hanataro Yamada, who seems to have recalled healing him before. Ichigo then goes to Byakuya Kuchiki, Rukia’s brother, for help, but he does not remember Rukia either. After a direct confrontation with Renji Abarai again, Byakuya directs Ichigo to his wife, Hisana Kuchiki’s, birthplace in Rukongai, where they are briefly reunited with Rukia before the siblings flee with her from Ichigo and Kon.
Ichigo and Kon are attacked again by captain-class Soul Reapers Tōshirō Hitsugaya, Ikkaku Madarame and Yumichika Ayasegawa but are saved by Renji Abarai, who follows his gut instinct to trust Ichigo. Commander-Captain Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai and other captains arrive to capture Ichigo, but Urahara arrives dressed in his old uniform when he was a captain prior to his exile. He sends Ichigo, Renji and Kon off to save Rukia, and explains to the captains that he studied a parasitic Hollow which could erase memories with its scythe-like tentacle, but it escaped and appears to be influencing the siblings’ actions to an extent. The siblings go to Kurotsuchi’s lab in order to fully destroy the Soul Reapers with the reiatsu weapon they had used previously, under the belief that the Soul Reapers were responsible for taking Rukia away from them. Rukia objects to this, and Ichigo and Renji’s arrival prompts Rukia to remember them. The female sibling succumbs to rage, and she forces herself, her brother and Rukia to all fuse into one, creating “Dark Rukia”. Dark Rukia, seemingly hollowified, unleashes the reiatsu weapon upon Soul Society before battling Ichigo.
The reiatsu weapon takes the form of a giant, deformed monster, and the Soul Reapers fight against it, including Yoruichi Shihoin who had arrived with Urahara, and a freed Kenpachi. Ichigo fights Dark Rukia and holds back initially to refrain from injuring her. Byakuya arrives and claims that he should be the one to finish this, but Ichigo intervenes and manages to free her with his own similar reiatsu, destroying the Hollow, while Byakuya and Renji destroy the reiatsu monster. Rukia regains her memories, but the siblings are left mortally wounded, but are regretful for their actions. Urahara arrives and explains that the Hollow attacked Rukia and the siblings while controlling a Soul Reaper’s body, but when the body was destroyed, the siblings trapped the Hollow in their bodies and were sent to Hueco Mundo for a time, managing to escape after a hundred years to reunite with Rukia because of their strong desire to be with her. Rukia tells the siblings their names, Homura and Shizuku, but the two die from their wounds, much to Rukia’s despair.
The film ends with Ichigo visiting Rukia at the hill shrine where she previously visited before during the movie (the shrines were made in remembrance of her childhood friends whom died during adolescence due to poverty), reminding her that her memories of the siblings will not fade. Kon, who was frozen during the climactic battle, breaks free and cries out to not be forgotten by everyone, especially Rukia.

The 10th Division, led by Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Rangiku Matsumoto is sent to escort an artifact known as the “King’s Seal”, which is stolen during transport from the Soul Society by an unidentified and masked Soul Reaper and two mysterious Arrancar resembling girls who control fire and lightning. During the attack, Hitsugaya corners and seems to recognize the Soul Reaper, who wounds him and leaves. In the middle of battle, Hitsugaya abandons his post to pursue him and leaves his squad behind to fend for themselves. After the battle, Soul Society suspects Hitsugaya of treason and orders his immediate capture. The whole 10th Squad is then put under house arrest at which time they can surmise whether or not the division should be abolished.
With the whole of Soul Society looking for Hitsugaya, Ichigo as a soul reaper on patrol accidentally stumbles upon 2nd Division Captain Soifon while she is conducting an investigation of the transport site. Soifon informs him of the events happening in the Soul Society and dispels the kido surrounding them. As Soifon disappears, Uryu Ishida meets with Ichigo and Tōshirō makes his presence known and passes out in front of them. Awakening in the Kurosaki residence, Tōshirō abandons his Captain’s Robe and replaces it with the thief’s cloak, and when confronted by Ichigo about leaving, refuses to explain what’s happening. In the midst of their discussion, Ichigo is attacked by the two previous arrancar before he can force the issue. Tōshirō escapes, and continues to avoid and attempt of capture by Izuru Kira and Shuhei Hisagi, and things only look worse when the deviated Soul Reaper thief, identified as Former Soul Reaper Sōjirō Kusaka, uses Hyōrinmaru, a zanpakutō with identical powers to Hitsugaya’s, to injure 8th Division Captain Shunsui Kyōraku. The 6th Division is sent in to investigate this attack, with Byakuya Kuchiki confirming it to be done by Hyōrinmaru. Tōshirō’s capture is then made top priority and his execution is approved.
Meanwhile, back in the human world, Rukia has caught up with Ichigo. The group, along with Ishida, Orihime Inoue and Yasutora Sado exchange information, and Rukia reveals rather surprising, in-depth knowledge of Hitsugaya’s personality, as well as some rather accurate guesses as to what Hitsugaya plans to do next. During the talk, Ichigo realizes what might be troubling Hitsugaya and leaves to find him.
Through his wandering to avoid capture, Tōshirō eventually manages to track Sōjirō down, where it is revealed that the two managed to manifest the same zanpakutō. Because it is impossible for the same zanpakuto to be wielded in Soul Society, the two were forced to fight to the death by the Central 46 Chambers of Soul Society. Tōshirō did not wish to fight, but was left with no other option as Kusaka attacked, claiming that he was the only one worthy of Hyōrinmaru. In the fight, Kusaka is defeated by Tōshirō and the authorities concluded that Tōshirō was the true owner of Hyōrinmaru, with the Military Corps carrying out his execution. Cursing Soul Society and its authorities, Kusaka died and was reborn in Hueco Mundo, where he became a hollow and started his plans of revenge against the Soul Society. Once he learned of the King’s Seal and its powers, which allows the user to freely manipulate time, space, and matter within a small space, he leapt at the opportunity to settle the score with both Hitsugaya and Soul Society.
Using the King’s Seal, Sōjirō teleports Tōshirō and himself to Sōkyoku Hill in Soul Society, needing the power of Tōshirō’s bankai to break the seal. There, they are confronted by Ikkaku Madarame, Renji Abarai and Yumichika Ayasegawa. As the whole of Soul Society’s forces led by Captain-Commander Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryusai appear on top of the hill. They attack Tōshirō and Kusaka but are thrown back when Ichigo and Rukia intervene, having just arrived in Soul Society. In front of everyone, Tōshirō refuses and Sōjirō breaks the seal himself, having gained enough strength to do so himself, after which he transforms into a giant dragon-like creature made of ice. Kenpachi Zaraki attacks and is defeated by the Dragon Kusaka, who then proceeds to mould Soul Society’s landscape at will. However, because he lacks the control which Tōshirō possesses, the power goes berserk and threatens to destroy Soul Society. The Soul Reapers try to attack Kusaka all at once, but are repelled by the immense powers of the King’s Seal.
Encountering Rangiku who had recovered his Captain’s Robe from Renji given from Ichigo, he accepts it. Ichigo and Rukia meet up with them and are joined by Renji, Ikkaku and Yumichika. A hoard of hollows appears out of Kusaka’s “castle” which he had generated out of the Kings’ Seal, and Yoruichi Shihoin and Soifon appear to defeat them. The group then splits up into two, and they both scale the castle. Battling with various Hollows, Menos and Adjuchas, they each formulate a strategy to attack Kusaka who is at the centre of the castle. Ichigo uses his Visored form while Tōshirō activates Bankai and they both storm up to the central tower, managing to destroy Sōjirō’s dragon-like bankai form. Returned to his regular form, Sōjirō and Tōshirō have one last clash. Kusaka is defeated and dies, asking an incomplete question and finally understanding that he really wasn’t worthy of Hyōrinmaru. In the end, Tōshirō is cleared of all charges and the King’s Seal is restored, allowing Tōshirō to finally put his past to rest.
The last scene ends with Tōshirō and Rangiku visiting Kusaka’s grave, where Rangiku’s lazy nature infers that the 10th Division is reformed.

A plus soul is chased by a hollow in a local park. Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki appear and dispatch of the hollow and send the soul off to Soul Society. Comically, Ichigo finds his body inspected by medics, having turned into a Soul Reaper without placing an artificial soul within his body. He escapes from the scene with the aid of Rukia. Soon after, unidentified ghost-like spirits begin appearing in Karakura Town. A mysterious Soul Reaper who calls herself Senna appears and begins destroying the spirits. Ichigo and Rukia return to their Soul Reaper forms (Ichigo this time through the use of Kon, a mod soul) then confront her, but she refuses to answer any questions and leaves. In the battle, Kon notices a figure wearing dark armour among the spirits. Ichigo follows Senna while Rukia returns to Soul Society in order to search for answers. Ichigo encounters Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Rangiku Matsumoto while following Senna, who tells him to come with them to the Urahara Shop, having been sent to earth to investigate why the real world is suddenly appearing as a reflection in the sky in Soul Society, having been noticed by Ikkaku Madarame and Tetsuzaemon Iba.
Back at the Urahara shop, Kisuke Urahara explains that a dimension between Soul Society and the real world, the Valley of Screams, has expanded to the point that it is connecting the two worlds. The spirits seen earlier are “Blanks”, souls without memories that were lost in the space between the two worlds and that comprise the Valley of Screams. The memories of the Blanks combine to form a single entity, the “Memory Rosary.” Deducing through the use of Kon having witnessed the armoured figure from before, he instructs the Soul Reapers assembled to find the Memory Rosary before this mysterious group does. Ichigo once again follows Senna around, where they make a scene at a nearby mall. Shortly afterwards, Senna is attacked by the armoured beings, and Ichigo arrives to fend them off, not knowing their motives.
While trying to help a soul find his father, Senna and Ichigo travel to a monastery, when suddenly officers from the Gotei 13, namely Renji Abarai, Jushiro Ukitake, Soi Fon, Toshiro Hitsugaya and Rukia appear at the monastery along with some armed forces. They declare that Senna is the Memory Rosary, and order Ichigo to hand her over, but Ichigo, valuing her as a being and not an object, refuses. The mysterious group arrive, calling themselves the “Dark Ones”, and are identified as a group of exiles from the Soul Society seeking revenge for the past, appearing and capturing Senna while managing to fight off the Soul Reapers and Ichigo. In the ensuing battle, Ichigo is mortally wounded and is taken back to Urahara Shop, where Orihime Inoue proceeds to heal him. The Dark Ones take Senna to the Valley of Screams and attach her to a device powered by the Blanks that will cause the Valley to collapse, resulting in a collision between the real world and the Soul Society that would destroy both worlds.
Ichigo travels to the Valley to rescue Senna while Rukia goes to get reinforcements from Soul Society. However, Captain-Commander Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai wants to destroy the Valley before it collapses and refuses to order a rescue mission with only an hour left. In the Valley, Ichigo is overpowered by the large number of blanks and by the Dark Ones, but he is saved by the arrival of his Soul Reaper counterparts, Soi Fon, Izuru Kira, Renji, Byakuya Kuchiki, Toshiro Hitsugaya, Rangiku Matsumoto, Kenpachi Zaraki, Yachiru Kusajishi, Ikkaku and Yumichika Ayasegawa. In the meantime, Jushiro Ukitake convinces the Captain-Commander to prolong the destruction of the Valley so that the Soul Reaper force in there may complete the mission and escape the Valley beforehand. The Soul Reapers quickly defeat the Dark Ones and Blanks, and Ichigo battles and eventually defeats their leader, Ganryu. The Soul Reaper force then quickly leave the Valley and reappear in the real world, content in finishing the mission.
However, the process of the collapse has gone too far to be completely stopped. Senna sacrifices herself to push the two worlds back apart to save Ichigo, using the power of the blanks to trigger explosions between the Real World and Soul Society in order to stabilise both. Afterwards, when both worlds have been saved, Senna, weakened by her efforts to restore the worlds asks Ichigo to take her to the graveyard so she can see her name on her gravestone. Although the stone had the name of one of a Blank whose memory Senna had, Ichigo lies and tells her that her name is on it. Believing him, she expresses contentment that she once had a life of her own before fading away. Rukia notes that once the power of the Blanks fades away, so will all memories of Senna. However, the last scene shows Ichigo walking on the bridge where the portal to the Valley was and sees a red ribbon, the one that he had bought Senna, floating down from the sky, and sees a girl who looks just like her running past him, causing him to smile.

This is a special episode to promote the fourth Bleach Movie, “Bleach : Hell Chapter”. In the Soul Society, all Soul Reapers of the Gotei 13 have formed teams that have to make a successful movie. Ichigo, Chad, Orihime, Rukia, Renji, Rangiku and Byakuya team up to make a movie named “Battle Maid Cap, Protect The Soul Society From Space Invaders”. They soon begin filming the scenes, with Renji as the director, he distributes roles on all the actors. In the film, Ichigo has to save Rukia who is held hostage by Rangiku, he succeeds in doing so. And after a skirmish with the guardians of the Sōkyoku hill, the movie ends.

As Isshin continues to attack Aizen, Gin, who is fighting Ichigo, activates his Bankai, Kamishini no Yari, which allows him to extend his blade to great lengths, stating that he will not hold back unlike the last time they fought each other. His first attack is blocked by Ichigo. Elsewhere, as the battle between Aizen and Isshin still rages on, the former reveals that he has reached the limit of his Soul Reaper self. Subsequently, the Hōgyoku begins to reconstruct his soul. In shock, Isshin discovers through Aizen’s statements the true power of the Hōgyoku, which is to “manifest” the desires of all the people within its vicinity. As Aizen’s transformation intensifies, Kisuke Urahara arrives to participate in the battle.

With the captains defeated, Ichigo charges forward at Aizen but is stopped by Yamamoto who tells him to stay away from the fight. Aizen stabs Yamamoto who initiates his Ennetsu Jigoku technique to trap him, which will kill not only Aizen, but the entire Gotei 13 in the process. However, Wonderweiss appears and extinguishes Yamamoto’s flames, revealing himself to have the ability to nullify Ryūjin Jakka. Yamamoto and Wonderweiss engage in unarmed combat, in which the former shatters the latter’s body to pieces using a hand-to-hand technique, Sōkotsu. As Yamamoto stands before Aizen again, Wonderweiss unleashes the flames sealed in his body as he dies. Yamamoto uses his body to minimize the damage the explosion causes, but is left severely injured. Aizen approaches the immobile Yamamoto and prepares to finish him off, but Yamamoto uses his body as catalyst for the powerful Hadō spell, Ittō Kasō, and catches Aizen in the ensuing explosion. As Aizen manages to get away relatively unscathed, Ichigo attacks him in surprise.

Komamura, Rose, Love and Risa join Hitsugaya in fighting Aizen, however all four are easily defeated. Soifon, Kyoraku and Shinji manage to confuse Aizen, allowing Hitsugaya to deal the final blow on him. As the Soul Reapers cheer on Aizen’s defeat, a shocked Ichigo yells at them, telling them they are wrong. It is revealed that everybody was under Aizen’s Kyoka Suigetsu illusion and Hitsugaya had mistakenly stabbed Hinamori, while Aizen reveals himself to be acting as Hinamori. Enraged, Hitsugaya charges at Aizen but is cut down. Soifon, Kyoraku and Hirako attempt to attack Aizen but all are similarly cut down as well.

As Aizen starts questioning Ichigo’s purpose for fighting him, Komamura calms him and tells him to not fall for his ruse. After Hitsuguya charges in, Aizen provokes him to attack with all his hatred. Hitsugaya agrees and releases his bankai as the other Soul Reapers join him.

Tōsen does not seem to fight as well in his new form now that he can see, but still easily defeats Komamura with a cero. As he charges another cero to finish Komamura, who has given up, Hisagi stabs Tōsen, then claims that if he did not have sight, he could have easily dodged his attack. Hisagi releases his zanpakuto, and slices Tōsen through the neck, dispelling his hollowfied form. Meanwhile, Hirako releases his shikai, which has the ability to create great visual illusions, he calls the inverted world. However, Aizen messed with his senses, claiming that his zanpakuto’s abilities are a far cry from his, and slices Hirako’s back. The defeated Tōsen comes to his senses, and requests to see Hisagi’s face clearly once more, but dies when an internal impact destroys his body. Hisagi is devastated while Komamura rages at Aizen. At this point, Ichigo appears behind Aizen preparing to attack him.

Komamura learns the truth behind Tosen’s relentless search for justice: Tosen had lost a beloved friend to murder by her Shinigami husband, and he joined the academy in order to get his revenge for her demise. Komamura activates his Bankai but is repulsed continually by Tosen who tells him that he knows his Bankai’s weakness, which is that he can cause damage to Komamura himself whenever his Bankai is damaged. Tosen then dons his hollow form which he calls Grillado Grillo: it takes the form of a hairy insect. When he opens its eyes in this new form, Tosen exults that he can see the world for the first time. Meanwhile, Aizen finally draws his blade against Hirako. Hirako then tells him he is grossly mistaken if he believes he is the only one with a Zanpaktou that has power over the senses and calls for his Shikai.

Hisagi and Komamura are both disheartened to see how far Tosen has gone to attain more power.

Meanwhile, Ichigo and Retsu Unohana head for the Real World through the Garganta opened by Mayuri Kurotsuchi who discusses the after war period with Byakuya Kuchiki. Unohana reveals to Ichigo that he is the only person who can defeat Sosuke Aizen, since he is the only one did not witness his Shikai Sword Release, she also informs him that “seeing” his Shikai is out of the question. Ichigo, realizing his great responsibility, resolves to defeat Aizen. Back in Hueco Mundo, Kenpachi is still dominating Yammy, seemingly defeating him and prompting Byakuya to finish him off, who refuses to do so as Yammy suddenly fires a Cero at both captains.

In a special episode to celebrate the tenth year the manga has been running, Ichigo and a number of other characters take part in a alternate world that hinges closely on the stories of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. Chigo (Ichigo) finds out that this is all a dream, and strives to wake up, while the others are intent on finding a hidden treasure called a Snow Crystal. Throughout a series of misadventures, Chigo and the others encounter a magic lamp with the power to grant three wishes, the “genie” being Rukiruki (Rukia), who, by breaking the laws of granting wishes is sentenced to be executed in the “Lamp Society”. Chigo and the others go to rescue her, and by doing so, Chigo is granted the third and final wish. Instead of being wished to wake up from the dream he is supposedly having, he opts for the Snow Crystal. But when it appears, it is revealed that the whole ordeal was dreamed up by Isane Kotetsu in the Soul Society, who then goes outside and apologizes to her captain for having another dream.

Ichigo manages to reach where Rukia, Sado and Renji were after Rukia was thrown by Yammy. Ichigo manages to cut Yammy slightly with a point-blank Getsuga Tensho using a new Hollow mask, but is unable to wear it again. Yammy takes advantage of the situation and grabs Ichigo, with an intent of crushing him with its bare hands. Byakuya and Kenpachi save Ichigo, having cut one of Yammy’s legs off. Mayuri Kurotsuchi arrives and tells everyone that he has managed to analyze the Garganta and offered to send Ichigo back to Karakura Town through it. Byakuya reminds Ichigo that his duty is supposed to be protecting Karakura Town, and not fighting at Hueco Mundo. Retsu Unohana decides to go along with Ichigo.

Wonderweiss battles Mashiro who takes the upperhand until her mask breaks. Before Wonderwiess can finish her off Kensei steps in and saves her. Taking her place in fight, Kensei releases his Bankai. Meanwhile the rest of the Visored regroup in front of Aizen along with Soi Fon, and Toshiro. Hiyori explains to Aizen why they have a score to settle with him, flashing back to the events that happened that night 101 years ago. Shinji commands everyone to not fall for Aizen’s taunts. Hiyori gets pissed at Aizen and rushes in for an attack only to be stabbed in the back by Gin. Meanwhile, back in Hueco Mundo, Ichigo has gone to help Sado, Rukia, and Renji. The three are still in a battle with Yammy, trying to come up with tricks to defeat him But they are ultimately defeated.

Harribel recalls her past when she was a Vasto Lorde-ranked Hollow. Saving her then-future Fracción Apacci from a male Hollow, Harribel recruits her into her group, along with Mila Rose and Sung-Sun to grow stronger and kill ravenous male Hollow. The quartet later encounter Baraggan when he was king of Hueco Mundo, and Harribel wounds a shark-like Hollow when he approaches her. Aizen, Gin and Kaname arrive in Hueco Mundo to recruit Baraggan, Aizen taking interest in Harribel. Some time later, Harribel’s group is attacked by the shark Hollow, now an Arrancar. Harribel fights him but nearly loses. Her friends also fight him but are also defeated. Aizen appears and kills the Arrancar. He then offers Harribel a place in his army, telling her that no one would have to be sacrificed in order to grow stronger. In the present, Aizen expresses disappointment in the Espada’s strength. Harribel angrily attacks him, She then realizes that she attacked an illusion and that she has been stabbed from the back of her left shoulder by the real Aizen. He then states that he will never allow her to raise her sword against him again and withdraws his sword, sending Harribel plummeting into the city below. Aizen then challenges the Gotei 13 and Visored in combat.

It is revealed that Shunsui Kyoraku was the one who had stabbed Starrk using his Kageoni attack. He then explains that his zanpakuto loves to play games and explains the rules of the games. Starrk catches on quickly and learns to use Kyoraku’s attacks against him. Lillinette saves Starrk from a fatal attack by Kyoraku by absorbing an attack, this kills her. Starrk shows distress at her death, when Kyoraku uses his Irooni game. Starrk, again learns how to play the game and almost defeats Kyoraku. Kyoraku, however, finishes Starrk off by calling out “Black” after taking his captain’s haori off, dealing a massive amount of damage to Starrk. As Starrk dies, he remembers he is not alone. Meanwhile, Aizen has grown tired of the battle and decides he no longer needs Harribel and slashes her.

Finally, Love hits Starrk with his Zanpakuto attack, and the Espada is thrown into a sea of flames. While the duel between Harribel, the Visoreds and Hitsugaya continues, Starrk summons a pack of wolves, made from parts of his and Lillinette’s souls, which explode on impact. When his victory seems assured, Starrk is unexpectedly stabbed in the back.

Baraggan survives Soi Fon’s bankai although half his face has been destroyed. In anger he fires out his Respira attack until he rots away Hachigen’s hand. However, Hachigen removes his hand via kido and places it in Baraggan’s body, causing him to rot away. Baraggan shouts how he will kill Aizen, and in a flashback it is revealed he was once the ruler of Hueco Mundo until dethroned by Aizen. In his final moments, Baraggan tosses his axe at Aizen but it disintegrates and Baraggan dies. Starrk shows distress at his death and vows to avenge him.

Hisagi joins Komamura to battle Tosen in hopes of bringing his former captain back to his senses. Meanwhile the other Soul Reapers form an uneasy alliance with the Visoreds: Lisa, Hiyori, and Hitsugaya take on Halibel. Love and Rose go against Starkk and he starts off the battle by firing a cero from his gun surprising both of them. Hachi, Omaeda, and Soi Fon take on Baraggan. Hachi starts off by making a barrier around Baraggan but he easily makes the kido age and disipate. Then Hachi made a wall to buy some time and talk to Soi Fon once more. They make a promise and Soi Fon agrees to hit Baraggan with her bankai once more. Hachi then summons three more barriers to keep Baraggan in one place when Hachi opens the barrier for Soi Fon to hit Baraggan with her bankai since last time, he survived by making the missile age and redirecting the explosion away from him. Soi Fon makes Hachi promise once more to seal Kisuke in a barrier for a month and she fires her bankai. After that, it shows Shinji trying to sneak up on Gin and Aizen but failing and remarking that one more of Aizen’s allies have fallen.

Hirako and the other Visoreds arrive at the fake Karakura town to assist with the fights. When Head Captain Yamamoto notices the Visored they flashback from 101 years ago. In the fake Karakura town, Lisa quickly rushes off to see Kyōraku. Hirako explains to Yamamoto that he is not their ally, but that he is Aizen’s enemy, and says that he is also an ally of Ichigo. Wonderweiss starts shouting very loud which causes Fūrā to open up and then releases a lot of Menos, but the Visored quickly defeat them. Hirako confronts Aizen, however Tōsen stops the attack before it hits him. Tōsen then starts to attack Hirako but is stopped by Komamura. Harribel breaks out of the ice that Hitsugaya encased her in and goes to attack him, but Lisa stops the attack in time. Hiyori also comes to help him in defeating Harribel. Mashiro goes to attack Fūrā and she quickly defeats it while Love and Rōjūrō confront Starrk. Komamura and Tōsen are quickly interrupted by Hisagi who wants to join Komamura in defeating him.

Kyōraku allows Ukitake to join him in fighting Starrk. Starrk fights Ukitake for a bit and notices his shikai’s technique which absorbs his cero’s and shoot it back out again. Just then, a huge Garganta opens up and reveals Wonderweiss and another gigantic hollow next to him. Wonderweiss then comes to each Espada’s aid by stabbing Ukitake in the chest while Starrk shoots Kyōraku with a cero making both Kyōraku and Ukitake faint to the ground. Wonderweiss then uses one of his loud screams which shatters the ice that Harribel was trapped in and she escapes unharmed. Wonderweiss then blows of the smoke remaining after Soifon’s bankai missile out of Baraggan making him resume his place. He finally has the giant hollow blow away the flames surrounding Aizen, Gin and Tōsen. Just when the Soul Reapers begin to panic, the Visoreds make an unsuspecting arrival right in front of Aizen, Gin and Tōsen.

Soifon fires her Bankai missile at Baraggan and creates a massive explosion which sends her flying but Omaeda manages to catch her, protecting her from crashing into a building. Starrk and Kyōraku continue their fight as Starrk pressures Kyōraku to show him his Bankai. Starrk then calls Lillynette and he fuses together with her in order to release his Resurrección form. The fight resumes as Starrk gains the upper hand. As Kyōraku is in trouble with Starrk’s cero, Ukitake uses his shikai which leaves Starrk questioning if Ukitake just fired a cero.

The battle between the Soul Reapers and the Espada becomes more and more tense. Soifon and Omaeda find themselves in a bad situation against Baraggan’s Respira. They can’t even counterattack Respira because they can’t get anywhere near it. Then, Soifon goes off somewhere, leaving Omaeda to fight Baraggan alone. Omaeda tries to buy time but finds himself impotent against Baraggan. Just when Omaeda is backed into a corner, Soifon arrives, having released her Bankai, a large golden weapon that covers her entire arm. She then fires a missile at Baraggan which leads to a gigantic explosion.

Hitsugaya releases his Hyōten Hyakkaso, an attack that manipulates the weather then uses it to dramatically increase its power, and successfully freezes Harribel, trapping her in a tower of ice. Meanwhile, Soifon and Omaeda continue their fight against Baraggan. He explains how each Espada represents an aspect of death, with his being aging. He demonstrates this aspect on Soifon: first, by slowing her reaction time, making her unable to land any of her attacks on him, then by grabbing her shoulder and aging it to the point that it breaks from frailty. Omaeda and Soifon devise a strategy and attack Baraggan but Omaeda hesitates at the last moment and it fails. Baraggan then releases his zanpakutō, Arrogante, and unleashes his Respira, a dark cloud that decays everything in its path. His Respira chases after Soifon and manages to reach her left hand, withering it down to the bone then begins to spread up her arm. Soifon, realizing that her whole body will decay into nothing unless drastic action is taken, orders Omaeda to cut off her left arm before the Respira can spread further, which he does.
